"This Little Piggy" - A Figurative Painting by Melissa Adams

"This Little Piggy"     5" x 7"     Acrylic on Museum Quality Claybord

I just love little baby toes, don't you? I couldn't resist painting Owen's sweet little feet when I stumbled across this shot I took of him as a newborn the other day. Have a great one, my friends!  =)

  1. It's wonderful! You have really captured the texture of that blanket! I love your signature too, I would love to hear about how you came up with it.

    1. Thank you Debbie! I actually came up with my signature while I was taking a graphic design class in college. I was only a class or two away from graduating with a degree in that as well as fine arts, and a huge part of me wants to go back just to have that second degree. I'm sure I'll do that some day, but for now it'll have to wait. Anyways, we were asked to submit a resume in that class, complete with a company logo for our own potential graphic design business. It started out actually as an M and a P, though I lucked out when I married my husband as I could easily switch the P to an A. But the identity was heavily based on two things. One, I worked for Starbucks as an Assistant Manager, and I wanted something to correlate with that, and a leaf was my choice as it helped represent the coffee bean. And secondly, I wanted my logo, or my signature per-say, to reflect my new-found identity in Christ, as a new leaf turned over in my life, and I was growing and changing into a mature human being. Though I'm not sure if that last part panned out as I'd hoped... Haha! But yeah, that was my thought process behind it. And I wanted something simple - something memorable and easily identifiable as being uniquely me, and I had always absolutely LOVED Albrecht Durer's signature. It's genius! Thank you for asking Debbie! I hope this answers your question. =)

  2. First of all I wanted to thank you for following my blog. Then I thought I'd have a look through your own work and just had to stop here! This is so gorgeous! I love the texture of the blanket too, but most of all the pink wrinkly skin. I can almost smell the baby powder!! I just love it!
I'm on rather a long winded painting at the moment and need to get some smaller ones on the go again - meanwhile my poor blog is suffering a little!

    1. Thank you so much Sandra! I feel ya with hating it when the blog suffers from a large work of art. I can't figure out whether it's better to work small and have something to post nearly every day, or work on larger works exclusively so that I have some more impressively sized paintings under my belt. I love the effect of both miniature and gigantic paintings, but I barely have time to do either of them in a day, let alone both. I hope you are having a better time with it than I am, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next! =D
